The Shane McGee Foundation is a 501(c)3 Private Operating Foundation incorporated in Florida. The Foundation is self-funded by the McGees with the sole purpose of educating consumers…educating them about the proper usage of safe consumer products; about dangerous products; and about news that affects all of us and our wellbeing.

We believe that there are several great Consumer advocacy organizations including Consumer’s Union and Public Citizen. These groups and others have done a remarkable job in spreading messages to protect consumers. Our aspiration is to help spread this consumer safety message, but while most of the established organizations are large, well-oiled machines, we will affect consumers (generate improvements / change) through local grass-roots efforts in the South Florida communities.

In addition, The Foundation is offering an annual scholarship to two Broward County graduating high school seniors, and will sponsor several community events yearly, such as an educational activity for youth.

This site provides the latest news on consumer information and product recalls, original features and reports on consumer products, and serves as a forum for victims and their families to aid in emotional healing and recovery.

The Shane McGee Foundation was formed by the McGee family, to honor their son, Shane, who died in a preventable automobile fuel-fed fire. This tragedy and subsequent wrongful death and catastrophic injury trial was chronicled in the media, including the television news show, 60 Minutes. While the accident was tragic and needless, it did ultimately result in visibility into this issue, as well as improving automotive design to prevent these types of fires.
