There are more crimes being committed, than prevented. With a career in the legal profession, I will be able to not only prevent crimes, but deter crimes as well. I want to be a criminal lawyer to defend the law, battle injustice, and maintain a sense of order in society. I have always wanted to be someone who would positively affect the lives of others in need of assistance. The news, television, and real life tragedies have inspired me to pursue a legal career. Defending morality would allow me to feel as if I am doing something worthwhile. My determination, ambition, and unconditional effort are characteristics that have directed me towards my future profession. The Shane McGee Memorial Scholarship will help ease and possibly eliminate the financial burden that college and law school may place upon my family.
I consider myself a very determined individual; I set a goal I wish to accomplish and I do not quit until I have reached my destination. One of my personal goals was to earn straight A's on my report card. Although I have always been a dedicated, high performing student; I had yet to earn straight A's on my report card until recently. I have a strong desire for success and am willing to work as hard as life allows me, to continue achieving. I strive for the very best and continuously overcome the obstacles life carries.
I have learned that education and life experiences are the key elements to success in any career. My daily activities, both work and school, contribute to my current and future achievements. Six days a week, I work at a real estate/mortgage office, processing loans and inputting listings of available homes. As a result, this enables me to interact with people and enhance my interpersonal skills. Dealing with everyday complications and contradictions has prepared me to be a member of the legal profession. My work place has afforded me the opportunity to interact with individuals of all socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, and personalities, which has been a superb learning experience for me.
In addition, I am a student in the dual enrollment program at Broward Community College, which allows me to engage in college courses and high school courses simultaneously. Recently, I took a speech communication class that has had a large impact on my manner of speaking and understanding of human interactions. This class has taught me to be more open-minded when dealing with society and the general public.
I have improved my decisiveness and developed a better knowledge of public speaking. Also, I am currently taking a world religions course which has introduced me to different ideologies. In learning about religions, I have a better view of how people live their lives according to their beliefs. I have learned that people feel connected to a person and are more willing to trust and confide in them when their beliefs and values are understood. As a lawyer, it is helpful to be able to relate to the beliefs of clients in order to connect with them.
Based upon my challenging schedule with both work and school, I feel that I am a qualified candidate for this scholarship. I have already proven to be successful in college level courses and receiving this scholarship would be a massive support towards my future studies. I see myself practicing my preferred field of study, Criminal Law, which will aid me to improve society. I see myself looking into the eyes of a client and confidently reassuring them of an effective outcome. This is what I want to do, and I know I will make a significant difference in the lives of many.
There is always a process to achieving goals and my process has already begun. My dedication, passion and daily practices have all served as valuable components to my desired dream. I would greatly appreciate all of the help and support from contributors of The Shane McGee Memorial Scholarship who seek to assist students like myself who strive for excellence. I hope you will take my candidacy for this much needed scholarship into serious consideration.
