What do you see as the value of our current legal system?
- Krista A. Marti -

The beauty of the United State's legal system lies in it's equality and compassion. The laws listen to every plea, every testimony, and every case with an unbiased ear. It gives every citizen an equal intervention. It acts as the most powerful means of protection for it's citizens by promoting fairness, clearing the streets of crime and harm, preventing and punishing corruption, and above all, sheltering the people from pain, abuse and maltreatment.

Citizens look to the law as a savior; the court system has the means to take an individual out of an abusive situation, by using its legal power, and provide safety, shelter and counseling for a better future. The law is powerful and can be used to change the lives of the innocent. Therein lies my ambition in law: Child Advocacy.

Some of the most unbelievable and trying epidemics in our society are domestic abuse cases and the sometimes weak foster care system; amid these problems, children and legal minors can be lost within the laws, regulations, and wants of adults. Child Advocacy attorneys act as the spokesperson for these situations and handled with the best care when taken out of an abusive or neglectful home. These lawyers tend to always have other's wants and needs in mind, and truly show compassion everyday; their selflessness and deep empathy for others is what first interested me in the field of law.

Growing up amid adversity and trying times. I know what it's like to feel as if your wants, dreams, and desires have been forgotten. I know what it is like to be desperate for help. I want to use the law to make sure that every child is given the motivation and opportunity, regardless of where they come from and how they grow up, to succeed and follow their dreams, whatever they may be.

I plan to be a member of the Legal Scholars program within my university's Honor's College; it will provide me with academic advising and law school immersion as an undergraduate student. I know I will be provided with the education and the resources that will enable me to begin a career in Child Advocacy law as soon as I graduate. Because to me, law is the most riveting facet of society. A lawyer has the credibility, the legal power, and the willpower to make a valuable difference in our country. Lawyers can craft their words to make a point, present themselves with confidence and pride, and above all operate the system to make their case. I will strive to become that type of individual within my legal career.
